This is in response to your question of whether or not LOTR sub-creations should be included in your Tumblr; my response well exceeded the 140-character limit, so I hope you don't mind.

I think this is a GRAND idea, and I was excited to see that other readers suggested sub-creations of C.S Lewis and other fantasy/science-fiction writers as well, as I would have never thought of that. However, maybe this would be a good idea for a separate Tumblr that you could simply link to ByTheGods. I enjoy this account for two main reasons:

1. I work as a counselor for children with behavioral problems, so as a way to help them get into books, I refer to your site to tell them about the mythical/theological character of the day. It works! Many of these children are also excited to find these characters in many books in the local library.
2. I just like sharing this information in general as a, "Did you know..." sort of thing, since almost everyone knows of or has heard of them in some way.

Therefore, if sub-creations were to be included, they would cater to a very specific audience. They are not as available as other myths, as older and more general myths are open to interpretation and may be revisited by several authors, whereas Tolkien and Lewis characters would usually only be explored by their respective creators. Also, on a personal note, I, for one, have still yet to read the LOTR series (I know, shame on me) and do not want any spoilers. Those who are riding the same boat may feel the same way.

I hope this insight helps, and I apologize again for the wordy response.

Well, first of all: sorry for taking so long to reply to this fabulous comment.

I had to post this to tell you how touched I am that By the Gods! helps you get these kids into reading, especially reading centered on mythology/history/fantasy. Thank you so much for your readership, and for the fine work you do.

I’ve had similar comments regarding what people like about the blog, and what a great conversation piece it can be; people either like mythology, or just don’t know they like it yet!

Obviously we didn’t go with the Tolkien mythology, but it’s still a passion of mine, and something I’d like to do in the future.
