The Titans
In Greek myth, according to Hesiod’s Theogony, the world began with the primordial deity Chaos. After Chaos and a few other Primordial deities came Gaia who lay with her son, Ouranos (the sky) and conceived the Titans. Ouranos was disgusted with some of his children, and so he hid them within Gaia. Yeah, basically just put them back in as they came out. That’s rough, and ouch.
Gaia, angered by this, asked her children for help, and Kronos/Cronus took up the call, castrating his father, Ouranos, when he came to get some sugar. After this, the Titans were free, and became the dominant generation of deities.
The first generation of Titans numbered twelve: Kronos, Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Crius, Iapetus, Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea and Themis. Kronos was the leader and youngest of the first generation, and would eventually be overthrown by his youngest son, Zeus. What goes around comes around, fella! *two snaps*
